On our test bench today is the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING graphics card (08G-P5-3755-KR). Of the four RTX 3070 cards offered by EVGA, the XC3 ULTRA GAMING has the second fastest factory overclock currently offered by EVGA. It features EVGA’s iCX3 cooling solution, which includes three fans. Like all other GPUs in the GeForce RTX 30 series, this card is not available in stores, but at the time of publication the MSRP is $629.99 directly from EVGA. To get a card from EVGA, go to their signup queue and wait your turn (it will probably take a while). We’ve seen this card pop up from time to time on NewEgg and BestBuy, but it’s still hard to find, just like all the other cards in the RTX 30 series. That’s more than the GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition card, so let’s compare it to the AMD Radeon RX 6800, which costs $579, and the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti to see how it fares against the king of the previous generation. The GeForce RTX 3070 GPU is based on Samsung’s 8nm manufacturing process and Ampere architecture. It has 46 CMs, 5888 CUDA cores, 184 tensor cores (3rd generation), 46 RT cores (2nd generation), 184 texture blocks and 96 ROPs. The GPU clock frequency is 1725 MHz. It features 8GB of GDDR6 memory running at 14 GHz on a 256-bit bus and providing 448GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The EVGA website lists four RTX 3070 models. The card we’re looking at today, the RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING, sits just below the RTX 3070 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING in the lineup, and the RTX 3070 XC3 GAMING cards (with and without backplates) are lower. 
The EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING graphics card comes in a large box that indicates that it is the EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA. Upon opening the box, we found the GPU in a black case with three fans and a solid metal back panel.

EVGA has given the GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING a factory overclock of 45 MHz, taking it from the standard 1725 MHz to 1770 MHz. Note that the acceleration clock speed is a target value based on performance, workload and temperature, and is usually exceeded by the NVIDIA GPU Boost algorithm. It also has 8GB of GDDR-6 memory at 14GHz, which is within the benchmark speed specs. EVGA offers a 220 watt TGP for this card. In terms of size, this is a fairly standard sized card. Although it’s long, it’s not long, so your closet doesn’t have to expand to make room for it. Measures 11.25 cm long, 4.38 cm high and 1.8 cm wide. Compared to the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 GAMING X TRIO we recently reviewed, it’s about an inch shorter in all dimensions. EVGA iCX3 cooling
EVGA uses its iCX3 cooling system, consisting of 3 HDB 2.0 fans with a silent motor and blades with raised E letters to reduce noise. The fans operate asynchronously and switch off at temperatures below 55 degrees Celsius. The circuit board has cutouts (as well as cutouts on the rear panel) to improve airflow and reduce exhaust gas recovery. EVGA claims a 5.1% improvement over the iCX2 cooling system with 9.7% less noise.

The front of the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING uses the iCX3 cooling design, which consists of five heatpipes and three fans. If you turn the card over, you will see the metal back panel and the cutouts that allow the fan on the back to blow air over the card.
